Like Sam Hamilton at the University of Denver, the Rapids’ second pick of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft - 24th overall - also captained his university. Liam Callahan skippered Syracuse, for whom he played in 62 matches over three seasons.
Callahan began his college career at Villanova, before switching to Syracuse in January, 2014. He is a determined defender from Amherst, NY, who attended Sweet Home High School. He was Sweet Home’s first boys’ soccer All-American, and a two-time All-New York State first-team selection.
The 22-year-old was made of captain of Syracuse in his junior year, 2015, a year in which he tallied nine assists.
