After a perfect start, Cal football’s season has taken a bit of a downward turn with consecutive losses to Utah and UCLA. The Bears dominated the first half of their schedule, winning five in a row and nearly beating the Utes — a team that at the time, some considered to be the best team in the country — on the road.
But on Oct. 22, Cal was outplayed and blown out by the Bruins. On defense and on offense the Bears struggled to get anything to work. Throughout the first half of the season, Cal had been able to get away with inconsistencies on both sides of the ball because if one side struggled, the other played well enough to keep the team in the game.
