Norm DeBriyn is good at deflecting credit. The former Arkansas baseball coach likes it when friends jokingly refer to the records set in his 33 years as coach.
There is much laughing about a plaque running buddies presented DeBriyn with 650 on it, his career loss total (with no mention of the 1,161 victories). He loved it.
That’s a humble, religious man that knows those are just numbers. What he was most proud about is the relationship maintained with those hundreds of players on his Arkansas teams. He’s got all of their numbers in his cell phone contact list — and loves to check on them.
